A quick guide as to where to spend
your nights in Canggu
Okay so you have just arrived and you want to go out, but you don’t know where the happening place is to be… Well I have outlined Canggu’s hotspots as of June 2018
Sundays, Deus has live music on, this is a pretty chill vibe but the music is great and they do a good happy hour. Go along for some great cover songs preformed by local bands.
Mondays you need to be at Luiji’s hot pizza, located right next door to Deus. Don’t miss their happy hour 50K margarita pizza and cocktails. They have a DJ on Monday nights so it is a great place to party.
Tuesday’s before you head over to pretty poison Deus runs a taco tattoo night. Buy a plate of tacos and receive a free tattoo. This does attract a lot of people due to the craziness of the deal, but be prepared that they do only take 16 people. You have to arrive super early to write your name on the board, then you can get any tattoo that will take under 20mins.
Tuesday’s and Thursdays pretty poison is a crowd favourite. This unique bar is situated around a skate bowl. Grab a beer, hang out and watch the skaters. Personally this is one of my favourite bars I love the chill vibes and watching everyone egg n the skaters. This bar is located in the middle of the shortcut between the two sides of Canggu.
Wednesday’s and Saturday’s, old man’s will be packed! Old man’s is generally busy most nights of the week, but Wednesdays and Saturdays in particular. This bar has cheap drinks and is situated right next to the beach, they play an interesting range of music and it is a large open bar that can get extremely hot. If yo0u don’t know where to go on any night old man’s will always have a lot of people and is a popular bar for after sunset surf drinks.
Fridays are spent at the lawn. This cannot be missed, the lawn is one of the most beautiful bars in Canggu go early for a drink in the pool and watch the sunset. Live music every night but this place is particulary crowded on a Friday so makes for a good party.
Every night, If you keen for an early morning dance on the beach Sand Bar is your go to. Getting busy at around 1am this is a crowd favourite to have a dance and some cheap drinks to finish your night off. Beware not to go for a swim as there a sea snakes that are active at night.
Besides Canggu’s awesome nightlife if you manage to leave the pool the next day
these are my 8 favourite things to do
Sunrise and sunset walks along the Beach, this is a prime time to watch the surfers and get some exercise in at the same time. I always use this time to get some cool photos while the lighting is good and the crowds are minimal. They have a couple of free boot camps and yoga sessions on the beach that you may want to find.
Shopping down Bata Bolong road. You will find good shopping the whole way down the road with amazing boutique clothing stores you should be able to find anything you are after without having to trek across to Seminyak. beautiful fine jewellery stores. and linen clothing galore. My favourite stores are the offering, Wanderlust for swimwear and Magali Pascal for the most beautiful French silk & lace.
Love anchor is my go to market, it is located on the main road and has a great range of clothing, souvenirs and jewlery. This market is on every day of the week but it is largest on a Sunday.
Samadi organic markets. These markets are only on a Sunday and cannot be missed. Go early if you are looking for fresh produce, it is all well priced and great quality. You will also find a lot of craft stalls and a range of other organic products made by locals.
A drive to the Joshua district
Now not exactly in Canggu but this is honestly one of my favourite things to do. Just a 20 minute scooter ride away, you will come across a truly authentic bali where no tourists can be found and you will have beaches to yourself. Stop in for lunch at Joshua coffee shop, overlooking the rice fields then spend a couple of hours exploring the roads by bike. You will find palm tree lined roads with rice fields either side, leading to secluded beaches, it really doesn’t get better than this.
Tanah Lot is located 20min drive away from Canggu this is a super popular tourist destination. Be prepared for crowds of people and a not so glamorous temple. There is a massive market located around the entrance to the temple so worth going to have a look around. We definely were not prepared for the amount of people that we were going to come across at this temple so timing is key.
Coconuts, Corn and Sunset. This would be my go to every single night. I generally went infront of old mans or la brisa. Grab a bean bag, a cob of corn from a seller on the beach and a coconut and you are set to watch the sun go down. When I think of bali this is what my favourite daily event is. Live music is on every night infront of old mans creating the perfect start to your night and an end to your day.
A spa day at spring spa. Being a spa that I also loved in New Zealand this was my go to in Canggu. With three locations in Bali there is plenty to pick from. Their menu is extensive and well priced. The spa itself is beautifully designed and you will not regret choosing to spend your day there.
